DeZURIK Manufactures First 144" AWWA Butterfly Valves
Sartell, MN (October 20, 2010) - DeZURIK has announced the manufacture and delivery of their first 144" AWWA Butterfly Valves for the City of New Orleans. The first of four such valves was delivered last month. The DeZURIK 144" AWWA Butterfly Valve and actuator assemblies weigh approximately 40 tons each and stand over 17 feet high.
In the wake of hurricane Katrina, the City of New Orleans was faced with an overwhelming task of rebuilding. the Army Corp of Engineers was also tasked with making sure that the flooding of New Orleans due to hurricanes could never happen again. A massive project was begun and is continuing to add and modify pumping stations to pump storm surge water from the drainage canals to Lake Pontchartrain.
One of these projects includes four motorized 144" diameter butterfly valves manufactured by DeZURIK. The first of these valves was recently completed and shipped to New Orleans where it is awaiting installation scheduled this month. The other three valves will be delivered by the end of 2010.
